What is a CNC crankshaft grinding machine ?

A follow-up grinding machine is a high-precision grinding machine that utilizes linkage tracking or follow-up grinding technology. Its core principle is to use mechanical or CNC methods to enable the grinding wheel holder to track the workpiece contour in real time, maintaining constant contact pressure, thereby achieving efficient and precise machining of complex shapes (such as crankshafts and camshafts).

Key technical features of the follow-up grinding machine include: a high-rigidity structure and automatic lubrication system to ensure processing stability; a CNC system combined with linear motors and high-resolution optical encoders (minimum resolution up to 0.0001mm) supporting multi-axis linkage control; a direct-drive workpiece headstock (C-axis) using a permanent magnet synchronous motor and Renishaw encoder, achieving a repeat positioning accuracy of ±2 arc seconds and grinding roundness controllable within 1-4 micrometers; and a grinding wheel spindle typically featuring a hydrostatic bearing structure, with a linear speed of up to 40 m/s, improving surface quality.

It has a wide range of applications, mainly used for precision grinding of key components of automobile engines such as crankshafts and camshafts, and is suitable for high-speed cutting and heavy-duty grinding scenarios.
