CNC slant bed lathes, available in 30°, 45°, and 60° slant bed configurations, are high-precision, high-efficiency automated machine tools. So why, in actual machining, are CNC slant bed lathes typically used with a 45° slant bed?

What are the advantages of a 45-degree slant bed CNC sectional cutting machine?
- High machining accuracy
CNC sectional cutting machines are mainly used for cutting the inner and outer cylindrical surfaces, inner and outer conical surfaces with arbitrary cone angles, complex rotating inner and outer curved surfaces, and cylindrical and conical threads of shaft or disc parts. They can also perform grooving, drilling, reaming, boring, and other machining operations. Their slide drive screws are high-precision ball screws, with very small transmission clearance between the screw and nut. However, this doesn’t mean there is no clearance. Any clearance will inevitably cause backlash when the screw moves in one direction and then reverses, affecting machining accuracy. In contrast, this 45-degree slant bed CNC sectional cutting machine utilizes gravity, which acts directly on the axial direction of the screw, resulting in almost zero backlash during transmission. If you still don’t understand, take a regular nut and screw, stand them vertically upwards, tighten the screw, and then untighten it in the opposite direction. You’ll see that the nut always presses against the lead screw to one side, so there’s no backlash. If you lay the nut and screw flat, this effect won’t occur. This ensures high precision in CNC lathe machining.
- The machine tool has high rigidity, reducing vibration during cutting.
Because the cutting tool of the slant bed CNC sectional cutting machine cuts at an angle above the workpiece, the cutting force is consistent with the gravity generated by the spindle and workpiece. Therefore, the spindle operates relatively smoothly and is less prone to cutting vibration. In contrast, on a conventional CNC lathe, the cutting force generated by the tool and workpiece is upward, inconsistent with the gravity generated by the spindle and workpiece, making it prone to vibration. The slant bed CNC sectional cutting machine automatically processes the workpiece according to a pre-programmed machining program. We compile the machining process route, process parameters, tool movement trajectory, displacement, cutting parameters, and auxiliary functions into a machining program sheet according to the instruction codes and program format specified by the CNC machine tool. This program sheet is then recorded on a control medium and input into the CNC device of the CNC machine tool, thereby directing the machine tool to process the workpiece.
- Due to gravity, iron filings are less likely to entangle with the cutting tool, facilitating chip removal.
In the CNC machine tool manufacturing industry, the ideal goal for every manufacturer is zero-defect manufacturing. However, the role and importance of precision testing technology in achieving this goal is self-evident. The machining quality of precision hardware parts and the assembly quality of the entire machine are related to the machining equipment, testing equipment (for non-standard parts machining), and the analysis and processing of test information. Therefore, from the perspective of precision testing, several issues need to be considered to achieve zero-defect production.
