Waterjet cutting machines are so user-friendly for cutting rubber products!

Rubber products are widely used in industrial sealing, automotive parts, medical devices, and daily necessities, possessing characteristics such as softness, high elasticity, and resistance to breakage. However, these very advantages present significant challenges for traditional cutting methods. For example, blade cutting easily leads to tearing and deformation, laser cutting produces scorching, and die stamping lacks flexibility and incurs high mold costs. In this context, high-pressure waterjet cutting technology becomes exceptionally “friendly”—it is an ideal choice for cutting rubber products through high efficiency, precision, and environmental friendliness.

A waterjet cutter is a device that uses ultra-high-pressure water jets for cold cutting. By pressurizing the water with a pump, ordinary water can be transformed into a high-speed jet with pressures exceeding 200 MPa, achieving high-precision cutting of materials. For soft materials like rubber, pure water jets are typically sufficient, eliminating the need for abrasives.

So, why is waterjet cutting of rubber products considered “so friendly”? This is mainly due to the following aspects:

Cold cutting with no heat-affected zone: Rubber is highly sensitive to heat; lasers or hot blades can easily cause scorching and deformation. Waterjet cutting, being a cold process, does not generate high temperatures, leaving the material undamaged and producing clean, odorless cuts.

Non-contact and non-extrusion: Traditional mechanical cutting stretches and deforms rubber, while waterjet cutting is a non-contact process that does not compress or pull the material, making it suitable for highly elastic or complex-structured rubber products.

High precision and clean cuts: Waterjet cutting produces clear lines and smooth edges, making it particularly suitable for components with high requirements for dimensional accuracy and sealing performance, such as rubber gaskets, seals, and rubber sheets.

Adaptable to various thicknesses and shapes: Whether it’s a thin-film rubber sheet or a rubber plate tens of millimeters thick, waterjet cutting can handle it all. Furthermore, with the help of CNC systems, irregular-shaped cutting, batch processing, and personalized customization can be easily achieved.

Environmentally friendly and clean, no dust pollution: Compared to mechanical or laser cutting, waterjet cutting produces no dust or smoke, making it environmentally friendly and particularly suitable for industries with high requirements for workshop environments.
