Reasons why the workpiece milled by the horizontal milling machine is not flat

The main reasons are the geometric accuracy error of the horizontal milling machine and the insufficient rigidity of the machine tool.

1 Geometric accuracy of the horizontal milling machine:

The straightness error of the axis movement of the coordinate axis of the machine tool in the two moving directions of the workpiece;

The verticality error of the axis movement of the spindle and the axis movement of the two moving directions of the workpiece;

The axial runout error of the spindle and the radial runout error of the spindle taper hole.

2 Machine tool rigidity:

The machine tool is insufficiently rigid. When machining a plane with a large cutter head, the increase in cutting force and spindle torque causes the deformation of the machine tool to increase, resulting in an increase in the verticality error between the spindle axis and the two moving directions of the workpiece;

3 Other factors:

The workpiece clamping of the horizontal milling machine is unreliable, and the workpiece moves and vibrates during machining with a large cutter head;

The workpiece itself is not rigid enough, and the workpiece gives way and vibrates during machining with a large cutter head;

The machining tool is not rigid enough or is not clamped firmly, and the tool moves and gives way during machining with a large cutter head;

All of the above factors can cause the flatness of parts machined by a horizontal milling machine to exceed the tolerance.
