Maintenance standards for each unit component of a roll grinding machine

A roll grinding machine is a metal cutting machine tool, consisting of a bed, headstock, tailstock, support frame, longitudinal and transverse slides, grinding head, measuring frame, and electrical numerical control system. What are the maintenance standards for each unit component of a roller grinding machine?

  1. Spindle

The spindle is a crucial component of the grinding machine, determining the grinding accuracy and high-speed stability of the grinding wheel. The spindle surface must be kept clean, and grooved areas should be cleaned regularly to prevent rust. The grinding wheel flange mates with the spindle; it must be cleaned every time the grinding wheel is changed, paying particular attention to the flange’s inner bore and bottom, as these areas are prone to accumulating grinding wheel sludge.

  1. Headboard Box

The headboard box primarily serves a transmission function, using a DC motor to drive the headstock disc via a belt. The disc is extendable. For the headstock components, ensuring the DC motor operates normally requires regular inspection of the carbon brushes, cleaning the commutator, cleaning and lubricating the bearings; checking for belt wear and aging. The extendable disc should be lubricated regularly to ensure proper lubrication.

  1. Tailstock

Work roll grinders use a light-duty tailstock, while universal grinders use a heavy-duty tailstock. The tailstock adjustment along the longitudinal direction of the bed in both work roll and support roll grinders is automatically adjusted by a motor. Potential problems with the tailstock include: the tailstock center sleeve is hydraulically controlled, and its extension and retraction should be checked frequently. The tailstock automatically positions itself longitudinally on the workpiece bed; for easy adjustment, the tailstock guide rails must be kept lubricated. Check the oil level in the oil pump and replenish lubricating oil as needed.

  1. Operating Table and Workbed Guideways

For grinding machines, the operating table and workbed guideways are also crucial, directly affecting the horizontal alignment of the grinding process and thus the grinding accuracy. The reciprocating table guideways are covered by telescopic guide plates, with each guide plate interface protected by rubber to prevent dust, grease, and sand from entering.

Furthermore, operators and inspectors are strictly prohibited from walking on the protective telescopic covers, and heavy objects or tools should not be placed on them to prevent debris from entering the guide plates and affecting the cleanliness of the guideway lubricating oil. The workpiece bed guideways are exposed and are not as critical as the reciprocating table bed guideways, but maintaining their surface cleanliness is still very important to prevent the accumulation of grinding wheel sludge and rust on the guideways, which can cause inconvenience in adjusting the support and tailstock.
