Compared with hard-wired NC machine tools, CNC machine tools have the following characteristics.
1) Good flexibility
The control function of hard-wired NC machine tools is realized by hardware circuits. If the processing control function of the system is to be changed, the wiring must be rewired. CNC machine tools can flexibly change or increase the functions of the CNC system through software compilation, and have greater flexibility.
2) Strong functions
CNC machine tools utilize the high computing and processing capabilities of computers to realize many complex CNC functions, such as quadratic curve interpolation operations, multi-axis linkage, fixed cycle processing, coordinate offset, graphic display, tool compensation, etc., so that the tool can realize any trajectory in three-dimensional space and complete the processing process of complex shapes. Hard-wired NC devices can only perform simple linear and circular interpolation calculations to complete linear and circular processing.
3) Good versatility
CNC machine tools can compile different software to meet the different processing requirements of various machine tools, so that the same CNC device can meet the requirements of various CNC machine tools, reflecting strong versatility. However, the functions and types of hard-wired NC machine tools are different, and the NC devices are different, which cannot be universal.
4) High reliability
The part program of hard-wired NC machine tools is read in and processed in segments during the processing process. Frequent startup of the photoelectric reader may cause failures and cause part program errors. This is the main reason for the low reliability of hard-wired NC devices. CNC machine tools can use input devices such as tapes and floppy disks to input the part processing program into the memory at one time, avoiding errors caused by frequent startup of the photoelectric reader during the processing process and improving reliability. CNC machine tools are also easy to set up various diagnostic programs, which can perform fault pre-checking and automatic search, facilitate maintenance and reduce downtime.
5) Easy to achieve mechatronics
CNC machine tools use large-scale integrated circuits and advanced printing and typesetting technology. Several printed circuit boards can form the entire control system, which greatly reduces the size of its hardware structure. It can be combined with the machine tool to reduce the floor space and achieve mechatronics.
